A New Bakery. An Old Building. A Whole Lot of Work.
We’re opening our second Butterken Bakery right here in Mornington. And while our first bakery is a beautiful new build, this time around we are getting our hands very, very dirty.
IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OPEN BY NOW...
Mid-August 2026 was the initial plan! But if there’s one thing we’ve learnt through this process, it’s that when it comes to renovations and construction, you can dream up the perfect plan, and then reality has other ideas.
What started as an exciting second location quickly became a much bigger renovation than we anticipated. Old walls. Old floors. Lots of surprises.
However, it is something definitely worth bringing back to life.
For us, this one is personal. Anita was born and raised in Mornington. She grew up around these streets, beaches and familiar corners. So the idea of opening a Butterken here has always felt like something we could only set our hearts on.
And honestly...why wouldn’t we?
Mornington has everything we love about the Peninsula. Beautiful beaches, great restaurants, independent cafés, a strong local community and that unmistakable seaside-town feeling.
It feels like home. And now, we get to be part of it.
Why Mornington?
Butterken has grown a lot since we opened our doors in Mount Eliza.
We’ve been bursting at the seams, and after years of baking (almost 4 years now), growing and building our little community, opening a second location feels like the natural next step.
More space. More baking. More honest food made from scratch. More Butterken.
And, most importantly, more of the Peninsula to share it with.
We’re incredibly proud to be a local bakery, and growing means we can bring the food we love making to even more of our community.
